Logging

This is an official support page for my book Successful POTA.

Using uLog and ADIF Master for POTA Logging

1. Open uLog. In Settings, change My Locator to your park (i.e. K-1729 in this example) and click Save Settings.

2. In each contact with another park type their park number (i.e. K-5245 in this example) in the Comments box. You can edit each park-to-park contact to add their park number in Comments if you didn't do it during the QSO. This is ensures proper credit for park-to-park QSOs when there are multiples like 2-fers.

3. Set the Log Viewer window so you can see all the POTA contacts from your recent activation. You might need to change Filter Log from the default of Last 25 QSOs to Last 50 or ALL if you had more than 50 contacts during the activation.

4. Highlight the POTA contacts from your recent activation by clicking on the last one then hold down the shift key and click on the first one.

5. Right-click on the highlighted contacts and choose Import/Export from the pop-up and then Export Selected QSOs to ADIF. It will save the ADI file in the same folder as your log, usually in the uLog folder at the root of your hard drive: C:uLog

6. Use ADIF Master to OPEN the ADI file for editing. Click the column heading to change the name for MY_GRIDSQUARE to MY_SIG_INFO (your park number) and COMMENT to SIG_INFO (other park numbers, if any). You can remove unused columns by right-clicking in the column and choose Delete Column.

When you get done editing, the only columns you need to submit are:
QSO_DATE, TIME_ON, BAND, MODE, CALL, MY_SIG_INFO, plus SIG_INFO if you have any park-to-park QSOs. Should also have your callsign in a column labeled OPERATOR.

7. If you activated a multi-state park, river, or trail, you can add a column and title it MY_STATE. Then copy/paste your 2-letter state abbreviation into all the rows in this column. If you don't do this, you must choose the state during the upload process.

8. Save the ADI file (with your call and activation date in the filename) and upload to the POTA system.

Ham Logging Software I use:

 • ADIF Master from DX Shell (CSV <-> ADIF)
 • uLog by M0PZT (use on netbook/small screen)

 • PZTLog by M0PZT (use on desktop/larger screen)
